Mike and I met in high school in a small Midwestern town where just about the only thing to do was to watch tractors go by and get into trouble. I was a love struck freshman and he was a license-toting senior. Soon after being introduced we were inseparable (still kinda are!). What everyone else called puppy love blossomed into a relationship that would last quite a while.
After graduating early, Mike proposed to me 2 months before I turned 18. Of course I said yes and the planning for a wedding and the remodeling of our new/old home started to take place. So, planning what flowers would adorn our wedding alter and tearing out plaster and lath went hand in hand for a while. Despite everyone telling us we were too young to get married, we tied the knot in 2001 at the ripe age of 18 and 21. To this day, we are SO glad we listened to our hearts! Of course, since we were married so young we would SURELY wait to start a family.......right?
HA - right! A few months after we were married we decided to open our marriage to the possibility of a child. VERY soon after that (like a couple of weeks!), a positive pregnancy test confirmed we were going to be parents! And so the journey of parenthood began. The birth of our son was one of the greatest events of our lives and I am happy we didn't put off having kids like so many people had instructed us to! While pregnant with our first son, Andrew, we sold our first home and built a new one on a small 1/2 acre lot outside of "small town" America. So once again, one major event was joined with another. We moved in only 2 weeks before Andrew arrived (in fact our 10+ lb. newborn slept in a laundry basket for the first night or two since we weren't quite settled in yet! ). While I was pregnant we decided that I would become a stay at home mother to our children, a decision that I have never once regretted. Eighteen months after the birth of Andrew we decided to add to our family again - and build yet another house (are we crazy?!!) So while pregnant with our second child, Madelyn, we embarked on building our dream home on a beautiful 5 acres of land bordering a small river. In late summer of 2005 our first daughter arrived and we were elated! Shortly after, in December of 05, we moved into our new country home. When Maddie was 6 months old (just 2 months after moving in) we found out that a third child would be entering our home. Although surprised, we felt SO blessed and loved the idea that our family was growing fast! So our third pregnancy was the first where we were not remodeling, moving or building a home! Thank goodness! Michael Robert arrived in the fall of 06 and we were quickly filling this farmhouse up! Shortly before Michael's first birthday we found out the great news again that God was adding yet another blessing to our family! Faith Roberta was born in July of 2008 with a FULL head of black hair (that somehow managed to turn itself blond in less than a year)! Life was busy now with our decision to homeschool the children and with having 4 kids (all 5 and younger) running around this farmhouse of ours. I think the saying "the more you have, the more you want" rings true with babies, because we were so excited to welcome our fifth child, Georgia Grace in September of 2010! UPDATE: Surprisingly we were SHOCKED but super excited to find out were expecting our SIXTH baby in January of 2012! Merry Christmas, Daddy! ;)
So that is the condensed version of a lot of love, a lot of hard work, a lot of grace from God and a little bit of typing on my part! Mike is now in the throes of launching a small landscape business and I am a stay at home mom to my wonderful kiddos! We spend lots of time together as a family and are so blessed by God to have such a great group of supporting friends and family (like you*wink*)!
